Subway

First off, I would like to say sorry for the wait! It's been a busy week! Now... time for this story!

Last night, my buddy Austin and I got hungry about an hour after we ate dinner (which happens alot) so we did what we always do, make a Subway run. I live about a mile from the Subway on Cliff Road in Eagan, so that is my go to spot if i'm on the run! I go a few times a week, and usually at night so the same staff is there. I walk in the door and the head sandwich chef (for lack of a better title) looks at me, smiles and starts to make my sandwich before I am 3 steps in the door! With her sweet southern accent, she says she is glad to see me and I introduce her to my friend Austin. He gives me a funny look, he knows I am a very social guy, but has no idea why I act like i am great friends with this Subway woman!

Once our sandwiches are made, I grab myself some Rasberry Iced Tea and sit at my favorite table, the one booth 2 spots in front of the drink machine. I don't want to drop any names, so just for respects sake I will call this woman Dolly. As I sit down, she goes on to tell me that I should stop ordering flatbread because it is the most fattening of all the breads! (you learn something new everyday) I had no idea! So we start talking, it is late and we are the only 3 in the place. She tells me about how her son decided to join the marines and how she wishes her nephew Mike still went to Eastview and asks how my rehab is going. I tell her about what is new in my life since I last saw her, and the conversation goes on for about 30 minutes. She comes around the counter as we stand up to leave, it is closing time at Subway and we had a movie to catch.

Dolly hands me a cookie and says "Jack, I can't thank you enough for keeping me company tonight, you are the only person today that has treated me with any respect. You remind of my brother back in Shreveport Louisiana, I can tell you were raised the right way. You have a great night now, come back and visit soon!" That comment completely made my night, so I thanked her and told her I would be back soon! Austin and I waved on our way out the door and I couldn't help but to smile when I hopped into my car.

The moral of this story is, everyone deserves respect! Whether it be your parents, the mailman, a teacher, or a friendly worker at a local Subway! People always ask me why I always talk to strangers... my response, everyone has a story and a reason they are in the position they are in. You never know when you will make a new friend, so be kind and social to everyone you see, don't judge them because of their current role in this World! Get to know them, you never know when you can make somebody else smile! ....RESPECT ALL and thanks for Reading!

The Life Of A Minnesota Sports Fan

Even though I wasn't born here, I am a diehard Minnesota sports fan! This is important right now because my Timberwolves are relevant again for the first time since KG left for Boston! If they beat the Jazz tonight, they will be 17-17! I know that doesn't sound so great but compared to the last few years of basketball heartbreak... Being .500 at the All-Star break is fantastic! If you havnt seen them yet, watch them tonight on FSN North! The bandwagon is almost full... But you can try and run behind it! And to all you lifelong Wolves fans who have stuck it out for these years... Salute! Go Wolves!

Kara: My Other Half

After the first post of my upstart 2012 blog career last night, My sister Kara was the first person to tell me what she thought of it (it was a sarcastic remark about how nobody cares about it or something like that) which was expected haha. It is the way Kara and I deal with eachother on most days.

Let me rewind for you people who might not know what I am talking about. I am a twin, although she did try to kill me before we were even born... Kara and I were born less than 2 minutes apart in Boulder Colorado, November 2nd, 1994. My mom had to have a C-section because Kara was persistent on kicking me down and sideways to the point where a regular child birth was not possible! Thanks to her, that meant I was born first, making me the oldest in the Bernstein family. (I'll never let her forget that)

Growing up in Knoxville Tennessee, Kara did everything before I did... She started crawling, talking, growing faster than I did. (believe it or not, she was bigger and taller than me until about 5th grade). But she has always been a patient and kind girl, so she waited for me! She even stopped walking and waited for me to be able to learn before she started again. We looked almost the same for our first few years, she was my other half!

When we were 7 years old, we left TN for Burnsville because of my dads job transfer. By that time, I was blooming into my outgoing, talk all the time, social, never stop laughing type of kid that i still am today! Kara was always more shy, but she was and still is the nicest girl i have ever met, and the best sister i could have asked for! (I don't tell her that as much as I should)...

We graduated Oak Ridge Elementary and moved on to Blackhawk Middle School a few years later. I had my friends and she had hers, we never had any classes together but we got along just fine! I'm sure I was annoying and mean to her most of the time, which I regret... But around the beginning of 8th grade, Kara completely came out of her shell! She started hanging out with a whole new group of girls, who happen to be some of my best friends these days as well. Kids like Rachel Galloway, Megan Sulistyo, Maggie Larson and many others, some of the nicest girls i know! And before i knew it, we were on our way to Eastview, and the rest is history!

These days, Kara and I are still very close. We are both very opinionated and we fight sometimes (I have had some bad anger management issues my whole life). Unfortunately, I usually end up taking out most of my anger on Kara, sometimes for very stupid reasons. But my main goal in writing this is to let you all know how lucky I am to have a sister like Kara. Some of the best times in my life are when us two are just hanging out! Whether it be at the kitchen table late nights or slapping jellyfish together on Indian Rocks Beach, she makes me laugh more than any other person. (We are both extremely weird, for those of you who don't know already).

So hopefully you read this sometime soon Sis, I know we argue sometimes, but i wouldn't trade you for the world! I am so proud of everything you do and i'm so happy to have you around every day! Don't ever change...

Late Night Thoughts

I tell my self everynight (around 10:30) that I need to go to sleep, I take my nightly cold shower, turn on my 3 fans and Christmas lights (that hang above my window all year) and hop in bed!

I lay down and automatically check Twitter, which is more like an impulse now. It's the first thing I do when I pick up my phone! After catching up on the nights tweets, I look for new music and watch a few videos most nights. When I'm satisfied, I turn off my lights.... This is when my brain goes into tornado mode.

I'm writing this post because I'm in tornado mode as you are reading... It all starts with a random thought, like something at school or a text massage or how much it hurts when I stub my toe on my nightstand (which happens to me everynight without fail). These thoughts spiral into other thoughts and before I know It I'm wide awake again, my head swirling with random thoughts and ideas!

The reason I am posting this now, at around 1:00 AM central time is because I know that whoever reads it, (I sure hope some of you read it) probably suffer from tornado brain as well! There is no stopping it, nor a cure for these late night thoughts, I have actually grown to appreciate them!

Sleep is a necessity, but I gladly sacrifice an hour or 2 everynight... For Tornado Brain! So for all you other insomniacs out there reading this for no other reason but sheer boredom, I feel your pain... And I thank you for your time! Now get some sleep!!!
